If you’re an avid Love Island fan and you’re sick of people rolling their eyes and saying it’s lame or whatever, you now have something of a comeback.
That’s because research shows if you’re into your trashy TV, there’s actually a high chance you’re incredibly intelligent.
So if you’re a fan of the drama on the island, the constant ‘grafting’ and ‘muggings off’, here’s what it says about you.
Researchers from the Max Planck Institute for Empirical Aesthetics recently teamed up with Vox to produce a video about people who like watching crappy TV and shit films, according to Cosmopolitan.
We can put Love Island in that category, along with many other programmes we need not mention, and in this specific case, The Room, a film described as ‘so bad, it’s good’.
Keyvan Sarkhosh who co-wrote the study, said:
To such viewers, trash [appears] as an interesting and welcome deviation from the mainstream fare.
We are dealing here with an audience with above-average education, which one could describe as ‘cultural omnivores’.
Such viewers are interested in a broad spectrum of art and media across the traditional boundaries of high and popular culture.
So there it is, the 2.4 million Love Island viewers are creatures of super-intelligence then – well, if science says so…
